Preparing for Remnants Show

The countdown has begun!   Only days left to pack
pack up all the little pumpkins and squashes.

I am using lots of cardboard boxes that the hubby
ran down for me (Thanks Craiger!)  Also packing
them in straw to protect them as much as possible
(think itchy and scratchy).

I have great support from my Supervisor Rascal!

Back to packing...Hope to see you Friday October 19 or
Saturday October 20 or maybe both days?

Early Harvest

I always like to post the first pumpkins harvested.
This year the pumpkins that are maturing the earliest
seem to be the white variety.  This is three weeks
earlier than last year's first harvest.  Don't know why,
they were only planted a week earlier than last year.
One of the many mysteries of farming...

Writing on Pumpkins-Inconceivable!

We watch a lot of movies at our house and as a result movie quotes
show up  frequently in our  conversations.  I thought it might be
fun to engrave a  few of our favorites on pumpkins this season.
One of our all time favorite movies is The Princess Bride and
it offers a plethora of worthwhile quotes:

Sometimes my brain gets a little fried out in the patch-
I had forgotten the word "me' in the quote and
had to squeeze it in later.

And who could ever forget Dorothy's famous line
from 'The Wizard of Oz'?

"It's for your own good!", That's what I tell my pumpkins as I enthusiastically write on them (yes, I
sometimes talk to them).  Without going through this scarring process, they would just be another
Plain Jane pumpkin.  I want to transform them into something  unique  that is literally outstanding in
the field!  The little tears of sap actually helps the wound heal and form the beautiful scar that makes them one of a kind.   Pumpkin- "You Look Marvelous!"
